About Us
History
Island Energy is a publicly owned utility company that provides electricity and natural gas services at
Mare Island, City of Vallejo.
Established and commenced operation in April 1997, Island Energy consists of one Manager, one Office
Manager, one Field Supervisor, two Gas Technicians and three Electrical Technicians.
While Island Energy is rather small compared to traditional investor owned utilities, our staff is available to
work at a personal level to meet the needs of any customers, from residential to that of large commercial
applicants.
The number of Island Energy’s customers on Mare Island has grown from the original 4 to approximately
480 with over 807 gas and electric meters on the system. Island Energy expects to add about 1,400 new
residential customers over the next 4 to 5 years.
Island Energy purchases electricity through the Western Area Power Administration and distributes power
to customers on Mare Island in the City of Vallejo. A significant portion (over 40%) of the power that
Island Energy purchases is hydro-power. Island Energy purchases gas from the Department of General
Services, State of California.
